Testosterone Therapy FAQ

What is Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)?

Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) is a medical treatment that aims to restore or optimize the levels of testosterone in men who naturally produce low levels of the hormone. Testosterone is a vital hormone that regulates many aspects of male health, such as sex drive, muscle mass, body fat, mood, energy, and more. TRT can help improve the symptoms and quality of life of men with testosterone deficiency.

How are the hormones replaced?

There are different methods of administering testosterone.  At ALPHA Men’s Health, we offer Pellets (through a clinic-administered procedure) and Injections (either administered on-site through weekly injections, or through an at-home kit and self-injection).

Who can benefit from TRT?

Men who naturally produce lower levels of testosterone and experience symptoms such as fatigue, depression, irritability, low sex drive, erectile dysfunction, loss of muscle mass, increased body fat, and anemia may benefit from TRT. However, TRT is not for everyone, and the decision to start TRT should be made after a thorough evaluation, and diagnosis by our qualified clinical providers. TRT is not recommended for men who have certain medical conditions, and our providers will assess eligibility and risk before permitting commencement of treatment.

Is TRT Safe?

TRT is generally safe and well-tolerated when prescribed and monitored by a medical professional. However, like any medical treatment, TRT may have some side effects or risks, such as acne, fluid retention, increased red blood cell count, liver problems, prostate enlargement, or reduced sperm production. Therefore, it is important to follow your provider’s instructions and report any adverse effects or concerns. TRT may also interact with some medications, so you should inform the provider of any other drugs or supplements you are taking.

How soon can I expect results?

The results of TRT may vary from person to person, depending on the severity of the testosterone deficiency, the method of administration, the dosage, and the individual response. Our clients often feel improved quality of life and mental mood within 4 weeks. Clients often feel effects such as energy boost, strength and metabolism within 4-6 weeks. Your provider woll monitor your progress and adjust the treatment accordingly.

Can I transfer from another provider?

Absolutely! Lots of Men are choosing to move their TRT service over to ALPHA Men’s Health and away from their legacy provider. Our full guide on how to transfer to ALPHA Men’s Health is here.

How fast will I feel effects of TRT?

The rate and impact of TRT may vary from person to person, depending on the severity of the testosterone deficiency, the method of administration, the dosage, and the individual response. Our clients often feel improved quality of life and mental mood within 4 weeks. Clients often feel effects such as energy boost, strength and metabolism within 4-6 weeks. Your provider will monitor your progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.

Will TRT cause my natural production to decline?

Yes, TRT can suppress the natural production of testosterone by the testicles, as the body senses that there is enough testosterone from the external source. This is why TRT should be continued as long as the patient needs it, and not stopped abruptly without the provider’s consultation. If you decide to stop TRT, our clinics providers can help you taper off the treatment gradually and safely, to avoid withdrawal symptoms or rebound effects.

Will TRT cause my testicles to shrink?

TRT, can in some cases, cause testicular shrinkage. The reason for this is that TRT can suppress the natural production of testosterone by the testicles. When you take testosterone from an external source, your brain senses this increase and may signal the testicles to slow down their own production. This can lead to a reduction in the amount of sperm and testosterone that the testicles produce, which can affect their size and function.

Not all men on TRT experience testicular shrinkage, and the degree of shrinkage may vary from person to person. Some men may not notice any change, while others may notice a significant difference. The shrinkage may be temporary or permanent, depending on how long you are on TRT and how your body responds to it.

If you have a concern to this regard, there are additional complimentary treatments which our providers may employ which will counteract this effect.

Will TRT give men ‘Roid Rage’?

No. ‘Roid Rage’ is a term associated with abuse of anabolic steroids in high volumes. The therapeutic dosage levels of TRT can have extremely beneficial improvements in mood and quality of life for men with low testosterone, and can actually help to alleviate feelings of stress and irritability. TRT can also reduce feelings of depression and anxiety that may be experienced by men suffering from low testosterone.

Does hormone therapy help sexual dysfunction?

TRT can help improve sexual function in men who have low levels of testosterone and suffer from low sex drive, erectile dysfunction, or reduced sexual satisfaction. However, TRT is not a cure-all for sexual problems, and there may be other factors that affect sexual performance, such as psychological, emotional, or relational issues. Therefore, TRT should be combined with other treatments, such as counseling, lifestyle changes, or medications, to address the underlying causes of sexual dysfunction. ALPHA Men’s Health has multiple services which help with regards to sexual function rectification.
